My goal is to be able to provide students with a tailored,
individual approach
to meet their needs, abilities, and challenges.
Mission
My mission is to promote optimal function and wellness through safe and sustainable yoga and movement practices tailored to individuals' needs.
Approach
There are limited options to maintain fitness and wellness in a safe and supportive environment when you have mobility challenges and or have been discharged from formal rehabilitation. Yoga is a great way to improve and maintain strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and a sense of well-being as we move through life’s journey.
In my classes, I usually start with a whole body warm up. I incorporate breath work to calm the nervous system, and then I add flow with breath, as a moving meditation. I usually offer a few versions of poses so that people can choose what works for best for their bodies in the moment or I tailor poses when I know a student is dealing with a particular challenge . We finish with savasana (resting pose) at the end of every class. Students prop up with bolsters and two chairs, sit reclined against the wall, or lie on the mat for time to intentionally rest.
Along with group classes, I also offer private sessions and small group workshops. I actually prefer being able to see students for one or two sessions privately in order to better understand their bodies and needs, so I can be even more helpful to them in a group setting.
My background as a PT informs my teaching. As I observe students in yoga class, I look at their bodies carefully and offer specific cues for safety and alignment. My goal is to be able to provide students with a tailored, individual approach to meet their needs, abilities, and challenges.
